Data Protection Day 2017
Saturday January 28, 2017 marks the eleventh annual Data Protection Day.
To celebrate, the ICO will highlight information rights and privacy issues over the next two days. We’ll be focusing on GDPR and encouraging businesses and other organisations to get ready for the new legislation coming in May next year.
Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham said:
“Happy Data Protection Day!
“Today is the perfect day to recognise that the GDPR is a once in a generation change in practice. GDPR puts citizens and consumers at the heart of data protection law.
“Now is the time to get ready – check our website for tools and guidance.”
The ICO will join data protection and privacy authorities from across the globe in marking the occasion. There are details on how other countries are celebrating on the Common Thread Network site.
We’ll also take the Data Protection Day opportunity to remind people just how easy it is to keep secure online. Our short video demonstrates how you can make your passwords more secure in the time it takes to make a cup of tea.
Anyone wanting to watch the campaign unfold can join #DataProtectionDay on Twitter or like the ICO Facebook or LinkedIn pages to receive posts.
