UK will ensure unhindered international data flows, Data Protection Minister says
02/02/2017
The government is committed to bringing the EU Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) into force in full by May 2018 and will bring forward legislation in the next parliamentary session to amend the Data Protection Act 1998.
Giving evidence at the House of Lords EU Affairs sub-committee yesterday, Matt Hancock, Data Protection Minister said that part of the Data Protection Act will need to be repealed so that there will be no inconsistencies with the GDPR.
Hancock said that the government wants to secure unhindered, uninterrupted data flows with the EU and the US the very next day after Brexit. He said that there are several ways of achieving this but would not give any details so as not to undermine the ongoing Brexit negotiations.
